i view this as a vindication of construction grammar vs formal rule-following grammar where rules are separate from the lexicon. -core annoys me in the usage that indicates any visual style or aesthetic because the construction was derived from hardcore as in hardcore punk to indicate a specific musical style or aesthetic (or a musical lineage, this distinction gets very in the weeds) but the new usage is only "against the rules" if I mistake conventional constructions for official rules which adjudicate formal correctness and should be binding for others. this is not punk!
